Second-Year Students

A collaborative effort of the UW Center for Career Services

 and the Individualized Second-year Advising Program



All workshops will be held in 134 Mary Gates Hall





Informational Interviews and Career Exploration –

Thursday, March 2, 1:30 – 2:20

Learn all about the process and strategy of getting information and advice from people in your fields of interest to see whether and how you might fit. This workshop will help you understand and apply methods of building relationships with others to meet your goals. It's more fun than you think!



Personal Statements for Major and Scholarship Applications –

Tuesday, March 7, 1:30 – 2:20

Thinking of entering a competitive major or applying for scholarships? Become familiar with the application process and how to construct a personal statement. Learn how to identify and research the majors and scholarships that are the best fit for you.



Resumes for Internships and Summer Jobs –

Wednesday, March 29, 1:30 – 2:20

Increase your understanding of how your resume is used in the internship search and make sure it targets your goal. Learn how to identify your strengths and talents and how to compose a resume that reflects these abilities in the best way to get an interview.



Internships and Summer Jobs –

Tuesday, April 4, 3:30 – 4:20

What is an internship? Why should I do one? When should I do one? What can I learn? Balance your studies with related experience! Learn where to look and how to make the most of internship and summer job opportunities.



Successful Interviews for Internships, Scholarships and Competitive Majors – Thursday, April 6, 3:30 – 5:00

How to prepare for and conduct interviews that get you selected! The following issues are addressed: interview formats, researching your target, answering those tough behavior-based and other interview questions, interview ethics and etiquette. A role-play is included to demonstrate an effective interview strategy.
