We are writing to ask your assistance in distributing information to
eligible students who might be interested in learning about and applying
to five highly competitive and prestigious fellowship opportunities for
study in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland - the Winston
Churchill, the Gates Cambridge, the Marshall, the George Mitchell, and the
American and Canadian Rhodes Scholarship Programs.
There are two deadlines for these scholarships: 1) the campus nomination
deadline of April 9, 2007; and 2) the national application deadlines,
which are the first or second week in October 2007 for Marshall, Mitchell,
and American and Canadian Rhodes; October 15 for the Gates Cambridge; and
mid-November for the Churchill.
The spring UW campus nomination application deadline is Monday, April 9,
2007. The following link --

process, the schedule for these scholarship programs, and the campus
nomination application. Successful candidates must be U.S. citizens, have
a demonstrated record of intellectual distinction, a strong
extracurricular profile, as well as personal characteristics that indicate
a potential for future leadership.

The Undergraduate Scholarship Office is available for conversations with
students, facutly and staff to provide additional information. There are
also individuals connected with the process-including former Rhodes and
Marshall Scholars-who are willing to talk with students about these
programs and about the strengths of the universities in the United Kingdom
and the Republic of Ireland.
· Winston Churchill Scholarship provides full support for one year of
graduate study in engineering, mathematics, or the natural sciences at
Churchill College, Cambridge University in England.
· Gates Cambridge Scholarship provides two years of study in any
discipline at Cambridge University in England. Note: Students interested
in this scholarship must apply directly to and be accepted to Cambridge
University before they are referred to the Foundation for consideration.
· Marshall Scholarship provides full support for two years of study in any
discipline at any university in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern
Ireland.
· George Mitchell Scholarship provides full support for one year of
graduate study in any discipline at one of the seven universities in the
Republic of Ireland or the two universities in Northern Ireland.
· American and Canadian Rhodes Scholarship provides two years of study in
any discipline at Oxford University in England.
Note: The Gates Cambridge, Marshall and Rhodes scholarships provides
enough funding to complete a graduate degree or a second undergraduate
degree.
Candidates for the Rhodes Scholarship programs must be twenty-three or
younger on October 1 of the application year. Churchill candidates must
be between 19 and 26 at the time they begin their graduate program.
Mitchell candidates must be twenty-nine or younger on October 1 of the
application year. By the time they take up their scholarship, students
must hold a first degree from an accredited four-year college or
university in the United States.
Please help us encourage talented and qualified candidates explore the
opportunities these fellowships provide. Women, men and students of
diverse backgrounds should be strongly encouraged to apply. Please do not
