Here is recap of what occurred at the April 30th (yesterday) club meeting:

- We reminded everyone of the remaining events for the actuary club for 2003:
May 7th, Mercer HR Consulting
May 23rd, post-exam party
May 28th, club meeting
June 4th, Safeco Insurance Company presentation

All of the above events, except the post exam party are in Loew 111 starting at 4:00 pm, with the presentation probably lasting until 6:00 pm

Also if you have not RSVP’ed for the Mercer presentation, please do so by the end of the week.

- Next, Toby White introduced himself to the club. For those of you who do not know Toby, he is an FSA who is currently a graduate student in the Statistics department. Last spring, Toby taught a ten-week Exam 1 seminar at the University of Illinois. He has provided the club with copies of all his lecture material from this seminar, including a course syllabus, quizzes and a sample exam that Toby wrote. If anyone who was not at the meeting is interested in obtaining a copy of this information, just email the officers at actuary at u.washington.edu.

- We also discussed plans for a possible get-together, party or whatever on Friday, May 23rd, to celebrate taking Exam 1 & 2. Everyone would be welcome to attend, even those who are not taking an exam this month. Suggestions for this have included going to a Mariners game that day, bowling at the HUB, or just having a relaxing party of some sort anywhere.

If you are interested in attending this and/or have any suggestions, please email the club officers at actuary at u.washington.edu.

- Finally, we discussed the formation of committees to help us reach our objectives. The committees are as follows:

Employer relations:
This committee will be responsible for making contact with the numerous employers in Seattle, and beyond and letting them know that we exist. At first we just want to make contact, and gauge their interest in possibly visiting next year and/or sponsoring an event.

ACMS concentration:
This committee will “attempt” to work with the ACMS dept. to see if an actuarial concentration can be created by combining some of the requirements from pre-existing concentrations into a new concentration. The goal is to have the UW establish an actuarial science program that will be recognized by SOA and CAS.

Activities/Promotions:
This committee is very self-explanatory, we want to have events but we need help organizing these events and making sure they fit the needs of as many club members as possible. Also, most the club members are at the Junior level or higher. We would like to advertise the club to gain members that are underclassmen.

We still need more volunteers for all of the above committees, so if you are interested email the officers at actuary at u.washington.edu and let us know what committee you would like to join.

For those of you who took the time to read this, thank you. Please let us know if you have any suggestions or questions about the club.
