[Actuary Club] Minutes and stuff from Wednesday's meeting

The following items were discussed at yesterdays club meeting:

Safeco Presentation:

There will be a presentation by Safeco Corporation on Wednesday.  This presentation will be from 4:00-6:00 pm (probably more like 5:30), and will be followed by light refreshments.  This is very exciting as, other than the career exploration week panel, this is the first time in a long while that we have had Safeco on Campus for a presentation regarding the actuarial career

The panel at this presentation will include the following Safeco employees:
Terri Delanti, Vice President, Chief Risk Officer and Chief Actuary, FCAS
Bill Huff, Chief Life and Annuity Pricing Actuary, FSA
Tim Atwill, Investment Consulting and Derivatives Trading, FCAS

This should be a very interesting panel, as they will be discussing career paths that we have yet to hear detailed information about.  We hope that we a good turn out for this presentation, as this will be very beneficial for those interested in an actuarial career.


Study Groups for November Exam:

It appears that there will be enough club members either taking classes this summer or living in the area to allow for the formation of a study group during the summer.  This group will probably meet a couple times a week and will consist of people that are studying for both exam 1 and exam 2.  This will be a great resource for individuals studying for exam 1, as most of the people studying for exam 2 have already passed exam 1 and will be able to provide assistance.  Todd Iwamoto, who will be sending out an email during the next few weeks, will again coordinate this study group. End of the year party:

It appeared that we all got a little too busy and we were not able to have the post exam party as we had planned.  However, we still intend on having some sort of a get together/party to have a little fun.  The new date for this is going to be Friday, June 13th or Saturday, June 14th .  We are looking at attending a Mariners game or just having a little party.  As activities coordinator, Todd will also be working on this and you should receive an email shortly regarding our prospects.

Committees:

Even though not much has been done yet with the committees, we plan to continue work with them through the summer.  This includes contacting employers who are interested in being associated with our marvelous club, advertising for this marvelous club, and working on the ACMS concentration possibility.  Once again if you are interested in any of this, let us know.

Study Material Library:

Also the idea was again discussed of those individuals who have passed exams donating their study material to the club.  This is something that will only benefit the newer students, who might not know were to start.  I know most of us won’t know until July 11th if we will need the guide again, but if you end up not needing it then we would appreciate the donation.


Well that is most of all that was covered.  Thank you to all that attended, and hopefully we will have even more people at the Safeco presentation.
