[Alpine-info] Too much whitespace in some subject lines

Occasionally, I will get an E-mail that uses multiple spaces or a tab
for additional lines in the subject header.

If the E-mail header looks like this:
Subject: Re: [PATCH] hwpmc(4) changes to use 'mp_maxid' instead of
     'mp_ncpus'.

I get something similar to this in the index or in the subject when I
reply:
Re: [PATCH] hwpmc(4) changes to use 'mp_maxid' instead of        'mp_ncpus'

Is there a way to have all the whitespace for the additional lines
replaced with a single space?
