Dear Eduardo,
thanks a lot for the patch, and the short reaction time !
I've added the patch, sumitted it to a sort of torture test and it works
as follows, which I presume is the best sensible thing one can expect and
is fully acceptable to me :

- starting with the less important thing, the spinner is now fast
- when I delete/undelete news messages in the index this is as fast
as for mail folders (i.e. instantaneous)
- when I enter the index page I still see the lines appearing one at
a time, but much faster then with the unpatched version (although
not as for a mail folder which is instantaneous)

Actually it's even better. When I start Alpine in my newsreading mode,
it goes to the folder list screen in a news collection, with one
newsgroup "preloaded". If I enter this, the index screen is instantaneous.

If I tab to the next newsgroup, the building of the index screen is line
by line. However if I jump back to the folder list screen. and then
re-enter a newsgroup replying NO to the "check for new items", the index
screen is instantaneous. So I guess what I observe is a real
communication delay with the nntp server (which is some 800 km south from
here !).

Instead, if from the index screen I enter into the thread index and then
into a message and then come back, long index screen are redrawn line by
line.

Finally, while D (delete) on the shown index screen is now instantaneous,
if I do "manual catchup" keeping the D key depressed, I see the index
screen being updated line by line, maybe in several screenfuls (with the
"New" message marker appearing) and then in the flag column my red N being
replaced by a blue D according to my colour setup).

Thanks again to you and all the team for Alpine !
