Thank you Mike for your messages. To be completely honest I had not
realized that there was a change in behavior from Pine to Alpine as you
point out, but for some reason, I do recall the behavior that is being
pointed out here as a bug from a long time ago. That is, this is not new
to me, and moreover, it makes sense. I think it is more effective,
since normally one wants to deal with the selected messages, not the other
way around. That's why I have never considered it a bug. That is why I do
not think of this as a bug, but as a feature.

Having said that, I also think that if you look at the automatic change
from unzoomed to zoomed might be confusing (if you just concentrate on
that behavior) but I look at it as a necessity for some other behavior,
that is, I see it as something needed to trigger something else, which I
think is desirable, so in my view this behavior does not have the same
relevance than others are giving to it, and again, in case I was not
clear, this is just *my* view of this fact, in the same way that I have my
views about politics, religion, etc. that may or may not agree with anyone
elses views.
