thanks for this info, I shall read the manpages contained therein.

In contrary to mixcvt it appears the latter 2 are not yet part of the 
Alpine distribution snapshot repository.

BTW, some of the documentation links, you were referring to, e.g. on the 
Alpine main page at <http://www.washington.edu/alpine> the entries FAQ and 
'Documentation and other supporting ressources' appear to be "pages under 
construction" with no usable content.
