[Alpine-info] Folders with dots now invalid

Hi fellow alpine'ists,

I am about to migrate one of our users to another server. This user 
used to save messages following

  saved-msg-name-rule = by-nick-of-from-then-from

resulting in a good number of folders (700 of 2000) with dots in their 
names, you know, like "firstname.surname" or similar.

All folders are now transferred to a server which does not allow dots 
in folder names (it's a Cyrus IMAP server).

Is there any reasonable way to deal with this situation? So that this 
user could more or less stick to his habit of hitting s [Enter] to 
save messages?

I thought about creating address book entries with renamed FCCs for 
all these addresses and folders. It would work but it's certainly not 
the preferred way. And it would not help for new addresses.

Any other idea?
