Thanks very much, Stephen. I sent your message to Steve Christensen and
he compiled Alpine 2.00 on Solaris 8 with your options and put the package
on www.sunfreeware.com. I downloaded it from there and have been using it
for a few minutes. It is definitely greatly improved -- I can follow
links in Lynx and view Word attachments in antiword. I can shell out
repeatedly without failure. So that's most of the problem solved. It did
crash completely out of nowhere for no apparent reason while I was looking
at a folder index. No clue on that, but I'll be looking out for more
crashes.
Steve Christensen asked if this problem is only on Solaris 8. Does he
need to use the "--disable-debug --without-pthread" options on other
Solaris versions -- 9 and up? I have no idea so I thought I'd ask if you,
Stephen, or anyone else here, have any thoughts on this.
Mike
