That is news to me and to everybody else who has Alpine set on their
Windows and Linux systems as their email program to handle mailto: URIs.

On Windows, it spawns PC Alpine, which I can assure you is very much a GUI
On Ubuntu, it spawns UNIX Alpine in an X Window. I simply went to System
-> Preferences -> Preferred Applications -> Internet and change the "mail
reader" to be "alpine %s" (it was "evolution %s") and checked the "Run in

It sure seems to be a Mac issue, given that Mac is the only system that
doesn't seem to be able to do it.
