I hadn't known that. Mail under Snow Leopard seems to have stopped
automatically creating To Do and Notes folders on IMAP servers, which it
used to do previously. I knew it did that; I didn't know it would insist
on a particular name for sent messages.
I wonder if it does that if one has "Store sent messages on the server"
checked under "Mailbox Behaviors" in the account preferences. Of course,
if that were not checked one would have to drag messages from a local Sent
folder to an IMAP one, if one wanted them kept server-side, after sending
them. But perhaps that's a solution for anyone who mostly uses Alpine and
only occasionally Apple Mail.
Alternatively, how if you delete the offending mailbox, highlight the one
you *do* want to use in the left pane, and select in the menubar Mailbox >
Use This Mailbox For > Sent? Its name (and very location in the UI) will
then change inside Mail but not, I think, on the server.
