Indeed I want to, and do use it occasionally. However, Mail.app is not a
proper IMAP client. And I was just sharing my observations regarding this
fact.

Sure. However, switching mailboxes doesn't solve the problem. Besides, my
main point was the fact that it is Mail.app that creates an offending
mailbox while there is already a .Sent mailbox on the server. I expect to
access my sent mail via the default sent folder of the MUA. With Mail.app,
this is not possible. On the other hand, with Thunderbird, for example,
there is no problem at all. Click on the default Sent folder, and voilà!
