I'm just guessing, but I'd say they're probably too large.  Most mail 
servers have a cap on attachment sizes, often as small as 10MB, and 
x-ray images can be 15MB in size according to

I'm also guessing you don't want to use a lossy algorithm like JPEG to 
compress the images since you could lose important details that the 
doctor needs to see.
