[Alpine-info] Can alpine display character sets like pine did?

If everything is the same -- same shell and environment strings, same 
terminal, etc., and the same .pinerc, I'm surprised it isn't giving the 
same behavior as pine.  Are you doing this on Linux/UNIX?  I hope someone 
else will chime in.
