Good point. I'm using urxvt terminal. When I view the UTF-8-demo.txt
file in "less" and narrow the terminal window to 79 characters it still
looks the same. So we can rule out the terminal and font in this case.
The text file is here in case anyone else wants to test font and terminal:

http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/ucs/examples/UTF-8-demo.txt

In alpine on the same urxvt terminal it seems perfect at 142 characters
and it starts to fail at 141. At 141 the box alignment at the bottom
starts to wrap and get messed up. Alpine puts the ">" in the right margin
to indicated a wrapped line. At 99 the braille starts to wrap. At 93 the
top and bottom of the text box in the "Nicer typography in plain text
files:" section wraps. At 83 the math starts to wrap. At 79 the rest of
the text still looks good.
