Sadly, changelog doesn't summarize it well enough to cover all this.
Any upgrade of a product (say from 4.0 to 4.64) will introduce changes.
As far as I know, there's no universal list of "to make alpine act exactly
like pine, do XXX" because you're in essence disabling useful
functionality that people have tried hard to make work.
That said, my *most* notable change in Alpine was the fact that the
"Opening folder" animations appeared. (And there's no way to quelch them
AFAIK).
It's a two line shell script to email every user on your system who uses
pine, and email them a heads-up. It's also trivial to rename pine to
old-pine or whatever so it can "just work" for those people who feel a
loss.
