[Alpine-info] question about password authentication

Is there a way to automate password-entry from within Alpine, for IMAP and
SMTP connections?

I see descriptions online of how to use ssh to avoid the need for a IMAP
password, for instance at
http://www.nevis.columbia.edu/twiki/bin/view/Nevis/AlpineWithoutPasswords ,
but that depends on one's mail server accepting ssh connections. I'm asking
rather about simply having Alpine being able to reenter my IMAP password
each time the connection is broken.
