Now I feel quite like Mike: I don't understand what you are saying.
Does this mean your IMAP server is local to your laptop?

1. Don't mix up ".pinerc" and "INBOX file": The first is what determines
the behaviour of instances of alpine running on the machine on which the
pinerc is. When you have two identical copies of the pinerc, this just
means alpine should be behaving identically on the systems.

The INBOX file is a file on the IMAP server which contains the mails
contained in your INBOX.

2. You could clarify things by sending us the line in your .pinerc starting
with "inbox-path"...
