Another way to enable selecting text straight from Alpine without holding shift
is to enable the feature 'Enable mouse in Xterm' in the setup, or in the
.pinerc add the line enable-mouse-in-xterm under feature-list. With this
enabled, hitting ctrl-| (pipe) will toggle the mouse behaviour from being used
to select the options at the bottom of each screen or selecting a message in
the index, to it behaving like a regular mouse in a regular terminal window
where you can select text as per usual. It's handy if you want to do a lot of
selecting text, but it will also (I think) disable the scrollwheel on the mouse
from being able to scroll through a long message, in which case
shift-left_click is probably more appropriate.
Different tools for different circumstances.
