Greetings everyone:
I am running FreeBSD x86 using sendmail 8.14.4 and running Alpine 2.00 and
ran into a problem as I was busy and didn't get a chance to delete the
messages in my incoming mailbox before I rebooted the machine. This is the
size of /var/mail/vince:
-rw------- 1 vince wheel - 3042803806 Sep 29 13:18:58 2010 vince
which is about 3GB.
What happens is that when I run alpine, in less than a second, it shows:
ALPINE 2.00 MAIN MENU Folder: (CLOSED) No

alpine works fine with other accounts and when I rename /var/mail/vince to
/var/mail/vince.old, it loads up fine.
I was reading this thread:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=478545
and basically when /var/mail/vince.old existed while vince did not, I loaded
the sent-mail folder and saved one of the messages to #driver.mix/INBOX and
then exit Alpine. This created the following in my home directory:
vince at bigbang [2:10pm][~] >> dir INBOX
total 18
drwx------ 2 vince wheel - 512 Sep 29 14:10:27 2010 .
drwxr-xr-x 44 vince wheel - 13312 Sep 29 14:10:33 2010 ..
-rw------- 1 vince wheel - 0 Sep 29 14:10:27 2010 .mix4ca3ab43
-rw------- 1 vince wheel - 0 Sep 29 14:10:27 2010 .mixindex
-rw------- 1 vince wheel - 44 Sep 29 14:10:27 2010 .mixmeta
-rw------- 1 vince wheel - 0 Sep 29 14:10:27 2010 .mixstatus
So I restart alpine after renaming /var/mail/vince.old back to
/var/mail/vince and it's supposed to see the mix-format INBOX and then
automatically start transferring messages there from the spool directory.
The problem is that it doesn't do that but instead within 1 second of
typing alpine and running it, it does:
ALPINE 2.00 MAIN MENU Folder: (CLOSED) No

Does anyone know what might be wrong and is there any other command based
mail clients or tools I can use to get the file to 3x 1GB files but with the
files, it will actually end at the end of a message instead of chopping it
off partially? Thanks!
Cheers,
Vince
