[Alpine-info] Backing up gmail messages with alpine

I can answer the question about not seeing your own posts from email lists.
Gmail recognizes that you sent the message, and does not display the
message.
The original and classic behavior of mail lists was NOT to send a copy of
the message to the sender. You just assumed it got received. If it didn't
get received, you would get a postmaster rejection, right?
You can get around this behavior by registering another email address like
yourname at anyisp.net and sending a message outside of gmail. It will show up
then.
You can also telnet into the smtp server of your real Internet Service
Provider - which in my case is gis.net and send the message, then it will
show up - even if you identify mail from<n1ea at arrl.net> as I do. It will
then show up because gmail doesn't have it in it's "sent mail" folder.
Crazy, I know but that's how gmail does it.
