What's the puzzle? I sent you a link to this documented behavior: if
you send mail through the Gmail SMTP server, it will make a copy of it.

It will also change the 'From:' header to whatever user you log in as.
Gmail's SMTP server won't let you use a custom 'From:' header. (Which
is why I use my own SMTP server, despite using Gmail for Domains.) The
web interface will let you use an external SMTP server for alternate
addresses, but I think it doesn't apply when you use Gmail's SMTP
server.

That's what I meant by "there's no way to disable it."

What do you mean by "according to my experience"? When I use Gmail's
SMTP server, I get a copy of every email added to the [Gmail]/Sent Mail
folder. It will show up in imap.gmail.com if you send via
smtp.gmail.com.
