Interesting post Richard.....I find the problem of sensation as puzzling as
anyone else - how do YOU think of it (your 'pain problem, that is)?? Do
you ever catch yourself just a little 'uncertain' about what you are
experiencing? Concerning my own experience, I think I could have looked at
things differently and perhaps talked myself into a whole different
situation. People trying to understand the phantom-stump pain problem
(neurologists, psychologists, etc.) have no basic widely accepted
concepts......and of amputees there are as many (fewer, actually) who are in
the 'pain-havers' camp as there are in the largely pain free camp. My
feeling is that eventually some bright researcher will come up with a
profiling system which will lay it out as to who has what kind of hard time
and why. (Ramachandran's work points a tantalizing direction!)
I met Wayne Wilkerson in Atlanta where he was working with Van Phillips
(FlexFoot) doing a running clinic for AKs. I agree that the man is very
impressive (both of them) and would be one of the primo master craftsmen in
the quality assurance set up I am touting. I would just like to hear Wayne
Wilkerson's response if it were suggested to him that his work is nothing
more than trial and error.
Cheers, GB.
