It has to do with the pecking order in the medical community. Neurosurgeon, 
Orthopedic surgeon, General surgeon is one example. Given that they are all 
board certified in their specialty. The PM&R docs are low on the totem and 
they work with the physical disabled. All of this goes back to the class 
system of society.

You will find much of this in the literature and what I am expressing comes 
from what I have read and head over the years in prosthetics, not one source 
or one book, but many books and many sources. There was a book in college I 
read about this but cannot think of the title right now had to do with the 
white coat.... The length of the coat is also a factor.

Another side of prosthetics and medicine that I have had an interest in for 
years.... Did not mean to upset anyone.
