I'm a bike rider and lost my leg in an accident 13 years ago. would like to 
encourage you to contact me - so I can put you in touch with an amputee 
support group as close to you as possible. Talking with and being around

Also contact the Amputee Coalition of America - 1888-AMP-KNOw for information 
I'm sure you will hear from many people here on the list who will help. Your 
boyfriends life will be differecnt but he can still become very capable and 
live a fairly normal life.  All of us do - it does take time, some help from 
fellow amputees can speed things along.
