Dianne:
Neuromas, for me, do seem to coincide with shrinking, as I had neuroma
pain severely the first year or so after my amputation, now it seems to
coincide with periods after I have been extremely active (which for me is NOT
running marathons or climbing mountains....but being on my feet all day at
work without many breaks, as a rule) or when I am even really stressed out
mentally. And it always occurs AFTER I have taken the leg off, gotten into
bed, relaxed and am just ready to fall asleep.Then...ZAP.....those delightful
little electrical jolts and spasms start in, and once they start there is no
stopping them ...I am stuck with them every 2-3 minutes, lasting 15-30 seconds
or so each, often for several hours, altho sometimes they last up to 24 hours
or so. I used to take Elavil, for about 3 years after my amputation, and the
pain was well controlled, but once they got under control somewhat, I quit
taking it because I never got over that drugged out feeling in the
stuff......felt like a zombie all the time....no highs, no lows, just a flat
line of feeling. Ugh. NOw I grin and bear them as they do not occur that
often. They do seem to improve too if I put the leg on, seems the pressure
relieves the pain somewhat. Of course NOT while I am trying to
sleep.....sometimes a Lortab helps. At any rate, to answer your question, yes
I think the neuroma pain could somehow be related to shrinking, thinking back,
as I had the most pain that first year when I had so much shrinkage, and now
after much activity which also can cause shrinkage. I feel for you,
girlfriend, as I know how miserable that pain can be.
