My doctor is recomending amputation as an alternate to yet another
attempt to restore my ankle by corrective sugury. You can understand my
delima since this would be an elective surgery!
My ankle was injured August 1999 in a fall from a ladder. The fibula
has healed but not the tibia. The problem is complicated by the fact
that my my ability to balance is impaired. Gentamicin was perscribed as
a precaution against infection and it destroyed my vastibular system.
I am able to drive (left leg broken) and to walk some with a walker or
cane. At 68 years my general health is quite good and there is so much
I still wish to do including travel.
Can anyone help with insight on useing an artifical foot with a balance
deficiency? Have any of you elected for amputition when there was a
clear alterenative? Have the decisions you made proven to be the same
choise you would make now?
Thank You!!! for any thoughts you could share with me, Grant
