Someone is going on vacation or whatever and they don't want 8
zillion messages in their mailbox when they return. The fix? Send
mail to:

                listproc at u.washington.edu

In the body of the post add the command:

                set amp-l mail postpone

which turns off your mail while you still remain subscribed to the list.

When you return, send to the listproc address the command:

                set amp-l mail ack

to resume mail service. All messages that went through your box
while your mail is turned off pass you by and you will never see
them unless you retrieve them from the archives.

OK--you say: "That's silly...just have them unsubscribe and
resubscribe". I agree. But there can be other uses for this feature.

Having mail turned off is NOT the same as being unsubscribed. You
can still post to the list---you simply don't receive any postings. This
can be useful for the occasional funky address we've all
encountered from time to time.

One of our fine subscribers wants to be able to post to AMP-L from
work but does not want mail to arrive at this address. So he simply
subscribes from both his home and work addresses and puts his
work address on POSTPONE. Problem solved.

Remember that the SET AMP-L MAIL POSTPONE command not
only turns mail delivery OFF but also turns OFF the DIGEST mode.
To put yourself back onto the digest mode, two commands must be
sent. They can be sent in the same message but you must use
separate lines as in:

                set amp-l mail ack

                set amp-l mail digest

That's it, folks. Any difficulty, contact me and willl fix for ya.
