In Florida,as in most other states, prior to state regulation, patient's
only recourse to receiving less than standard O&P services (I am being
kind!)was the same as that of a consumer's whom had bought a bad tire,
except the tire probably came with a manufacture's warranty!
The complaint process was required to be made to the Consumer Affairs Dept.
of that state which is generally under the Department of Agriculture.
Many unhappy patients were unable to or unwilling to wade thru the
bureaucracy, hence opposition to regulation claimed there was no need for
regulation under the Department of Health since very few complaints had been
filed..
Perhaps other professionals and amputee in unregulated states can reply
with the complaint process available to them in their respective states.
