First, I need to correct a typographical error. In that last post, the
sentence which stated, "they are bad people" was intended as, "they are not
bad people."
T.C. stated
>Unfortunately, we are the only industrialized country in the world that
hasn't solved the problem of the public's health. <
T.C.,
I can't agree with this interpretation. Am aware of many countries with a
product they call a "national health care" but don't know many that have
solved the problem of matching resources with people health care needs.
Many countries obtain greater public satisfaction by lowering the public's
expectations. Part of our problem is our public (and media) has very high
expectations for health care. I agree, inappropriate legal decisions and
awards are a large part of the problem. St. Paul, one of the country's
largest health care provider insurers, recently decidedly to drop that line
of business. Big problem which, as always, will ultimately affect the
public.
I feel one of the important functions of forums such as this, is place for
people to ventilate. A place to voice frustration, a healthy coping
mechanism (as is humor). However, if we can also forge policy concepts that
work and are politically realistic - we just might able to make things
better for us and the amputees who will inevitably follow us. So for
example, if this group developed some good suggestions; how and to whom
would make that into an action plan?
So how do we get a better match between resources and expectations?
