My parents found that book for me when I had my
accident and amputation (1970). I enjoyed reading
it.
My accident and amputation happened while my Dad
was stationed in England (with USAF).
My Dad arranged for me to meet Douglas Bader, as
we both went to Blatchford limbfitters. My memory
demonstrates what an annoying child I must have been
as a 9-year-old: I felt very smug that I walked
without a limp, and he limped badly and had a lot
of hip rotation in his gait. I didn't understand
what an AK amputation (or having bilateral
amputations)
did to body mechanics at that age. No doubt the
prosthetist thought I was a typical Yank :-)
