Russ and all,

I smoked from the age of 17 until I quit at the age of 25. With continued
clean living and clean thoughts :-), I hope to forestall full blown diabetes
for 10 years, by which time there will be a "cure."

The diabetes epidemic in this country coincides with the obesity epidemic.
What used to be called "mature-onset" diabetes is now being diagnosed in
seriously obese 18- and 19-year-olds. Part of the explanation is fast foods.
 When Mc
Donalds introduced it's burger, fries and Coke combo in the 1960s, there was
only one size available and the total calories were 590. Today, the "super
size" version of the same meal is 1,550 calories!
