Need Advice

I have a diabetic friend who will have to have his large toe removed this 
week.
He is very concerned about his ability to walk afterward. I would like to 
give him some encouraging words but really don't know the facts about toe 
loss.

The Dr.s are giving him a lot of gloom over this.

Can anyone give me some facts I can pass on?
