Socialized medicine

One day LaRae W mentioned:

LW> I have never seen the sort of treatment we ALL received
there any where in the US before.

There is one place this used to be the case. On a US military base. I
served 4 years in the US military as a medic. When someone
presented at the ER (where I spent way too much time), we asked,
if it was not obvious, "What can we do for you?" As you well
know, in civilian hospitals you are now asked, "Who is your
insurance carrier?"

I saw then the problems with socialized medicine..it does not get
more socialized than the US military. I have also seen the net result
from my days on the fire department (which was far more medical
than fire) of our present medicine-for-profit system. A huge percent
of our transports to the ER were people with no insurance or access
to medical care. They called 911 because that was their only chance
to receive medical care. Years back Vanderbilt Hospital opened up
another emergency room since so many people relied upon the ER
for primary care. Such are the realities.

Glad to hear things are going so well for you and Michael. Tell
Mike I am, as we speak, putting out another noxious cigarette
in the skull and bones ashtray you guys donated to me. Naughty
boy....
