The Fitness For Everyone Clinic is a full-day interactive clinic for 
amputees, their family members and friends, therapists and other 
healthcare professionals. The clinic is coming to the Tampa Bay area 
on Saturday, September 13, 2003, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza 
Hotel (700 N. Westshore Blvd.). Three-time Paralympic track and field 
champions Dennis Oehler and Todd Schaffhauser will lead the clinic, 
which is being sponsored by Endolite and Westcoast Brace & Limb. The 
clinic will provide amputees of all ages with instruction in 
stretching, strengthening, walking and running, and also some tips 
for those looking to achieve their own physical goals.   

Clinic attendees will learn stretches and resistance exercises that 
are specific to amputees to increase strength and flexibility. They 
also will learn about the working dynamics of the prosthesis and how 
to employ the muscles of the residual limb to move it more 
efficiently. Depending upon the amputee’s rehab level, he/she also 
will learn essential physical skills, including walking, running, 
jumping, bending and maneuvering generally with a prosthetic device.  
 New amputees who are not wearing a prosthesis or who are unsure 
about getting active are encouraged to attend and interact with 
Oehler and Schaffhauser, other amputees and healthcare professionals 
in an informal setting. The clinic also is designed to promote 
confidence, strength and flexibility during ambulation, yielding more 
efficient daily operation and less expansion of energy.   

The clinic costs $15 for amputees and family members/exercise 
partners, $30 for students and $60 for healthcare professionals. The 
registration fee includes clinic materials, continuing education 
credits for therapists and nurses, goody bag and lunch. Any proceeds 
from the event will be donated to Amputees Together, a Tampa Bay area
