Question about cold stump

Since I'm  a fairly new amputee, this winter has been pretty bad for the 
awful coldness in my stump (AK)  Usually starting in the early eve and I have to 
put a heating pad on it to warm it up.  I'm just wondering if this is a commom 
thing among amputee's and what you do for it or to help prevent it.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
