Hello everyone,
I'm so glad to find such a group and look forward to getting the
digests. Here's my situation -
For 15 years I've suffered from a progressive peripheral neuropathy of
unknown origin. At this point some of my practitioners are predicting
I'll need amputation of feet and lower legs at some point, since there
are always sores I'm working hard to keep from getting infected, and
the pain is pretty bad most of the time. I also have post-polio
syndrome, and this is causing one ankle to turn in and become
deformed, so I wear a brace. Walking is increasingly difficult.
I look at amputation with a lot of fear, wondering how it would impact
my life. I understand there are good prosthetics out there and that I
might be able to walk after awhile.
I'd love to know what your experiences have been, any red flags to
watch for, any other tips.
Many thanks for any help! I don;t know where to go with this but want
to explore what it means and how it might help or hinder my life.
Shirley
