So I put this out as a proposition: The C-leg is not worth the extra cost
except, possibly, for some particularly athletic sorts. Anyone want to
debate
this PRO or CON? And, then, on the side, if not a C-leg, then what?

Larry,
i am an ak/bk since 83, i am 47 now.
i have had the c-leg, going on 5 yrs. prior to that i wore the mauch sns,
which i loved.
i don't require much because i am of the opinion that the least amount of
gear i can get away with is best. i will not bore you with all the "stuff"
i've had over the yrs. i did wear my mauch sns knee the longest. what i liked
about it? IT never dropped me. that's it. walked good, no surprise falls,
unless i did something stupid.
i am not active per se... i live my life, i have one son who i just sent off
to college. i don't go on marathon shopping sprees, in fact i don't shop
anywhere they don't have carts.
and if i do, i take the wheelchair.
i got the c-leg because of all the wonderful things it supposed to afford
me. it's a great leg, i have no issue with it, i even like being able to go
down a ramp foot over foot, instead of sideways.
i do NOT like having to plug it in every night. that's a pia for traveling.
that being said, you have to send it out evey 12 mos for warranty "work".
that's for 2 yrs <at least it was when i got mine> i did not pay $1800 a yr
for extended warranty. so it hasn't been in the shop for 2+ yrs. still
working fine.
when the time comes, probably sooner, rather than later, i will have to make
the choice again. right now i'm thinking i could easily go back to my
mauch, and much less cost. HOWEVER, i will need to get back onto my mauch and
try it out before i make that decision.
i understand there may have been some updates to the newer c-legs,, bt i
don't know what they are yet, and if it's worth it to me to get one..
one other thing about the c-leg,,, cosmesis. if that's important to you,
look into that also. mine is butt ugly, and has never beem cosmetically
covered,,, i keep saying i'll have it done, but i just don't see anyway to make it
look less obvious.
don't know if i answered your questions, but this is my experience.
:)
