Theresa:
Welcome aboard. It's always good to meet another DBKA. You raise a good point - about whether to use cosmesis or "cover up" my prostheses. Having just attended an ACA gathering - or in our local monthly amputee group, I would prefer to go "exposed" at times like these. However my cosmeses are not designed to pop on and off easily.
As a 69 year old pastor, I am before the public and my congregation constamtly. While some would accept exposed prostheses just fine, I'm sure others would be unduely distracted by them. That being the case, I would be defeating my primary purpose for being before them - which is to proclaim the Gospel. If exposed prosthetics would distract people from their worship, then it would be out of place.
Now, some bold, proud, in-your-face types would say "That's their problem". But if they are distracted, then it's also my problem. As a pastor, my primary purpose is not to proclaim amp-dom, but a religious message. But then, when I'm among amputees.......
Now, if I could have cosmeses that could pop on and off readily, we could have some fun, eh?
