Hi Nancy;

Being from Pittsburgh I know youse guys. Go Steelers! Go Eagles!

Have been RBKA for 21 years. Stump is short, described by my prosthetist as
very bony, and I have always had a flap of "loose" skin at bottom of stump.

Tried pin system for a short period of time, as a possible alternative to
modified suction system with a sleeve. But I was not at all comfortable with the
feeling I had of "pistoning" or "pull". I have managed the suction/sleeve
system very well.

I have never had a prosthesis fall off. If I had a prosthesis that fit, but
did have a problem with pistoning or slippage due to sweating, it was solely
an issue where I wasn't paying enough attention to and I wasn't managing the
situation properly. It wasn't the suction system itself.

You need to do what you feel is best for you. Sometimes, at the beginning
of the process of being an amputee, that is not so simple.

I feel that the prosthetist is there to help you through the decision making
process; letting you know what the alternatives are; letting you try them
out if he can and then, once you decide what you are comfortable with,
fabricating a prosthesis that fits.

Have a great New Year.
