It may be a chicken or the egg kinda thing. I think just being an active amp
on a prosthesis keeps one in decent shape. People around this small town
where my car wash is comment on the long hours I work (5am till around 8pm 7
days a week)...I realized early on that if I were to get the same amount
done as before, I'd need to at least double my hours worked.
As for the pain, I think that is an insideous adjustment that shouldn't
happen. At least that's the case with me. My leg started hurting one day
because of a bone spur on my femur, but I tolerated it. Some days are better
than others. It has gotten progressively worse and now I find myself in a
lot of pain with every step -- that wrecks my gait, causes my back to hurt,
and just generally takes a lot more energy. My wife says I walk around with
a scowl on the bad days, but I've just gotten used to being in pain. Silly,
really, when I know a new socket with a liner would solve all of the above.
