Hi Richard - sounds like you are doing great. I had my amputation 9 years
ago and still have phantom pain and pain spasms in my residual leg. They
come and go for no apparent rhyme or reason. They were frequent during the
first year and now sometimes go months without any and then have them a day
or two. I live in NH and like you am crutching out to my barn in the snow.
I am having an infection problem that is causing my residual leg to swell so
much I can't get my prosthesis on. I am fearful of falling on the ice but
have to feed my animals twice a day. The last thing you want to do is damage
your residual leg now that is healed enough to get fitted for your
prosthesis. Good luck with getting a well fitting socket. The socket is the
most important component of the leg and not all prosthetists can make a good
one. I hope you have chosen a good prosthetist. Herb
