I am relatively new to this whole amputee thing, lost leg in a MC accident in April of 08. However, I have had 6 sockets with all being suction, thus I know no better. That being said, once my leg started hurting in the socket, I gave my prosthetist the benefit of the doubt, however, after waiting 7 weeks for him to "get it right" I Left his office. I now have one of the best prosthetists in the area, I say this only after hearing from other amputees and seeing all his prosthetic patents hanging on his wall and can say with certainty, that while I am still in nominal pain, .5 - 1.0 on a ten scale, it is muc less pain than what I had been accustomed to with previous prosthetist. CAVEAT: I am an AKA with traumatic tissue loss and one ugly looking limb.
But, I am walking and alive, so the secret, I thin k, is to find that one prosthetist you are happy with, overlook his demeanor, his age, looks, etc and judge by how you feel. Are you in less pain?> Are you more comfortable? Are you happy?
Good luck!
Jeff
