A question for the experts:
I am now 8 months out following an AK amputation of my right leg -- necessitated by a "flesh-eating" streptococcal infection. I mention this latter to clarify that my stump is now entirely healthy. There are no sore spots or ulcers or whatever. By and large things are going very well. In particular, I have no significant pain in my stump, and I am able to wear a prosthesis all day with essentially no problem. But I do have one annoying problem. I have continued to have what I describe as "neuropathic tingling" in my phantom leg. This is not severe pain. In particular, I have had none of the stabbing pain that others have described. But I do get at times very uncomfortable tingling in my phantom leg, and particularly in my phantom foot, especially when I have had pressure over the sciatic nerve at the back of the top of my leg (stump). I have been able to manage this pretty well with a low dose of gabapentin ("Neurontin"). But still at times it is quite uncomfortab!
le.
My two questions:
1. Is this something that will eventually go away? If so, what sort of time line should I expect.
2. If this is not something that is likely to go away, is there something more definitive than taking gabapentin that I can do about it?
Thanks in advance for any help you all can give me.
