Excellent observation and comments. The concern and empathy world
wide for the Haitian people particularly patients suffering from
traumatic amputations are well intended and honorable. However there
are so many issues which have to be addressed into the equation in
order to effect a sustainable positive outcome.
One of the main issue is time; when is the residual limb ready for a
prosthesis. An efficient methodology is not a universal application
for all amputees. In many cases additional surgery and modifications
prior to measuring and fitting will have to be performed.
A rational approach to deliver the best possible economical service
is a one source organization in which all supplies and personnel are
funneled thru rather than numerous impendent providers which could
add to the existing chaos.
