Greg Dotson loves Duke basketball and also lovesto tell about the
time two years ago he won 500 bucks by sinking a halfcourt shot at an
Austin Toros game.
Carlos Garcia loves the Fighting Irish and bristled when I asked him
when Notre Dame was bringing back Division I football.
These dudes live for sports. Our two-hour visit Tuesday was more
about having laughs and talking sports than it was about my
interviews with two young men who have gone through amputations.
Dotson and Garcia work at Orthotic & Prosthetic Technologies Inc., a
7-year-old company whose owner, Aaron Foreman, custom designs
artificial limbs for his clients. The business also provides a
consulting service, and Dotson and Garcia are among five workers who
go to local hospitals to counsel patients about the reality of
amputation. They quickly found that some of these patients were
really into physical fitness before losing one or more of their
limbs.
