APRA-NW

Candidates for Office of Vice President/Treasurer

Name: Mark Koenig
Organization: Oregon State University Foundation
Number of years in prospect research: 10
Number of years in development: 10

I am currently the director of research, relationship management and
discovery for the Oregon State University Foundation, a private
non-profit corporation affiliated with the University. I have served
ten years in the prospect research field and most recently was the
director of prospect research and management for The George Washington
University in Washington, DC. I have also held development research
positions at Georgetown University and Rice University.
A native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, I earned my B.A. in history and economics
from the University of Houston. I have served as an officer (including
Treasurer) for West University Masonic Lodge #1283 in Houston, Texas,
and was a founding trustee for Hope for Children, U.S., a private
foundation that sought support for children orphaned by AIDS in
Ethiopia. I have also lent support and services to The Boys and Girls
Club of Corvallis, NeighborWorks America, and the United State Tennis
Association.
On a side note, I have experience managing budgets of over $90,000 in my
previous two positions. I'm also familiar with Quicken and other
financial management software.
I would be delighted to serve for APRA Northwest in this capacity and
continue to help the organization grow in membership and to include more
non-profits in the region.

Name: Sheila Thayer
Organization: University of Washington
Number of years in Relationship Management: 7
Number of years in development: 7

It has been a great pleasure to serve as the APRA-NW VP/Treasurer this
past term and I would be honored to serve an additional two years.
Serving as treasurer has given me a chance to help ensure the ongoing
financial viability of APRA-NW through budgeting, managing expenses and
introducing an Events database for better registration, tracking and
reporting.
I have enjoyed serving on the Board and look forward to pursuing
activities to continue to strengthen the organization

Candidate for Office of Program Chair

Name: Jennifer MacCormack
Organization: University of Washington
Number of years in prospect research:8
Number of years in development:8
Serving on the board of APRA-NW has been an important part of my work as
a Prospect Researcher and has given me the great opportunity to serve my
field. I have truly enjoyed working with the board and membership toward
developing programming that fits the needs of newcomers and veterans in
the field of prospect research and management. If re-elected as Program
Coordinator, I will continue to work hard at delivering quality
educational content for our membership and explore other opportunities
to bring our field together.

Candidate for Office of Secretary

Name: Lisa L. Close
Organization: University of Washington
Number of years in prospect research: 7
Number of years in development: 8

I would greatly enjoy serving as secretary on the APRA-NW Board. I have
been employed as a prospect researcher at four universities: Brigham
Young University; University of California, Irvine; Arizona State
University; and University of Washington. My various tasks and
assignments have helped me hone skills that I believe will serve APRA-NW
well, including taking minutes at strategy sessions for $1M+ donors;
preparing and editing presentations, spreadsheets, and reports for
meetings with university presidents, boards, and development officers;
and performing as secretary to the employee organization at BYU (of 500+
employees). I have a BA and an MA in English, with an emphasis on
folklore-my thesis is about the transformative world of the contemporary
vampire, which has led to many interesting conversations! I plan on
using all of these skills, talents, and quirks to serve our local APRA
organization.

Candidate for Office of Director At Large/Webmaster

Name: Kelly Riutta
Organization: University of Washington
Number of years in prospect research: 3
Number of years in development: 3

I have been the Webmaster for APRA-NW nearly as long as I've been a
prospect researcher and have thrown myself headfirst into both
endeavors. As a librarian, I was determined to create a site that was
easy to use and contained the information our members need. Over the
past two+ years, I made a complete overhaul of the site to include
regular news updates, an updated calendar, job announcements and brought
APRA-NW into the 21st century with online registration. While the system
is not perfect, it is designed to ensure ease of maintenance for future
webmasters, regardless of HTML knowledge. Working with the APRA-NW board
members and general membership has been an incredible experience that I
would love to continue.

Kelly Riutta is a Research Strategist for the University of Washington.
She holds a BFA in painting and a Master of Library & Information
Science and applies both to her work with APRA-NW. She would also like
to formally thank fellow board member and artist Jessica Balsam for her
immeasurable design assistance with the site.
