If anyone's looking for a Young Women's group to get involved with, or
know some artistic performance groups . . .

Please read and respond!
...as you know The Young Women's Leadership Institute--the coolest girlz
empowerment going!- has a core program that consists of monthly Challenge
Days--mini-retreats for this community of girlz and their mentors. In
October the theme is violence. I discovered two days ago that the "Namaste
Peace Project" and a man named Len Schriner are putting forth a valiant
effort to pull together a "Future of Nonviolence" event on the same day
(also for older teens).
YW-LIP has decided to collaborate with Namaste for the 24th. We
particularly appreciate his broader, global focus on violence, non-violent
solutions and activism. To this end, we need your help in involving
yourself or referring us to resources who can provide the following (modest
stipends/ performance fees are available):
* One or two dynamic, interactive opening "events": e.g., a theater, song
or dance performance piece; a personal story from the point of view of an
activist; a global/international perspective on themes related to the systemic issues involved in violence:
war/class/poverty/sexism/"the other"/racism, etc and /or their peaceful antidotes!!!
* Seeking 1-2 addditional 90 minute "breakout" workshop sessions. (either
10:30-12 or 1:30 to 3) Currently, offerings include Community Policing and
Sustainable Peace; Heros/Heroines of non-violence practice; Dreamworlds: the
stories music videos tell about female sexuality; Aikido. Particularly
welcome are those dealing with pro-active practices and systemic issues such
as sexism, racism and classism.
* More youth to attend!! (with LIP alone there will be 45+ persons there,
as well as Namaste has a strong recruitment effort underway in the
highschools)
Please send your ideas/referrals/proposal by return email asap!! My phone
number is 461-4443. I will be in town M-W, October 12-14 and then out on
Thursday and Friday. Should you leave me a message this weekend, I will
return your call or email onSunday.
Thanks for listening--
