biased textbooks

Hmmm. Lots of thoughts. Good thoughts. What can WAC do?
Here's what I'm thinking.

1. To deal with the immediate problem, how about first approaching the
Econ (and individual) deptartment. To enact any change, I think it would
be great to get their support or find out if the first battle to fight is
within the Deptartment.

2. To deal with the larger problem. Now that's a little toughter. I like
Suzanne's point about the concentration of publishers. But, I don't think
WE should be researching or letter writing. It should be the DEPARTMENTS
taking responsibility on this issue, with our help and nudging.

If we really want to go with this issue, we should start looking for
allies, ie women studies dept, academic steering committee (ASUW), Student
Senate . . . = pressure!

And if all else fails, we can always have a parade! Anyone want to dress
up like a text book?

(ps: if we're interested in taking this on, we should be meeting about it.
anyone interested?)

Thanks,

Ray Liaw
Director
